She was a native of Miami, FL but had lived in Waycross since her childhood. She was the daughter of the late Ward B. Sloan and Ludell McNeal Sloan.
She was a graduate of Waycross High School, and completed her Registered Nurse (RN) training and was Capped at the Orangeburg Regional Hospital in Orangeburg SC. She later served as a Surgical Nurse at the Atlantic Coast Line Hospital in Waycross from 1953 until 1961.
Rev. Wilson will be most remembered for her Love of the Lord and people. She was a longtime member of Grace Chapel, where she had served as Youth Leader from 1960 until 1970. She was ordained into the ministry at Grace Chapel in 1962 and served as Associate Pastor for many years. She was appointed as Pastor of Grace Chapel in May of 1981 and served as the Pastor until her retirement in December of 1993. The "Crowning "part of her ministry was she founded a Ladies Prayer Group that included women from numerous denominations and churches from the Waycross area. She served as leader of the Ladies Prayer Group from the mid 1980's until 2012. She will also be remembered for her personal visitation ministry in which she faithfully visited people in their homes, nursing homes, and hospitals.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, J. Everett Wilson of Waycross, a daughter, Cynthia Wilson Eddings (husband Walt) of Waycross, 3 grandchildren, Kristin Eddings McCarthy (husband Dr. Josh) of Waycross, Whitney Eddings Eddins (husband Clay) of London, England, and J. Kalen Eddings of Valdosta; 3 great grandchildren David McCarthy, Hannah McCarthy, and Samuel McCarthy; 2 sisters, Christine Sloan Russell (husband the late James) and Shirley Sloan Grantham (husband Earl), a brother, James Sloan all of Waycross and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A committal service will be held at 9:45 Sunday morning (May 2, 2015) at Oakland Cemetery. A memorial service celebrating Rev. Wilson's life will follow at 11:00 AM Sunday at Grace Chapel. The family will be receiving friends from 6:00 until 8:00 Saturday evening at Music Funeral Home.
