Funral services were held here the first of this week for Mrs. Richard Jobes, an aged resident of our city who resided here for the past sixty years. She passed away Saturday at a local hospital after an illness extending over a long period of time.
Annie Anderson Jobes was born May 24, 1863, in Spjellerup, Denmark, being the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Anderson. She came to this country with her parents and sisters as a little girl. They settled on a farm near Nelson where they lived for a number of years. When she was 18 years old the family moved to Alexandria, Mr. Anderson having bought the Minnesota house which they operated for a number of years.
She was baptized in Denmark and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in this country. She attended the school near her early home at Nelson.
On July 30, 1890, she was united in marriage to Richard Jobes and they continued to make Alexandria their home. Two daughters were born to this union, Florence (Mrs. Ben Sundquist) and Esther.
Mr. Jobes preceded her in death Feb. 2, 1946, and a daughter, Florence, passed away April 23, 1924. One sister, Maria (Mrs. Ole Stedje), passed away Sept. 22, 1944. Her parents and another sister passed away a number of years ago.
She leaves to mourn her loss, one daughter, Esther, at home, a granddaughter, Evelyn (Mrs. Frank Wiski) of Duluth, and a sister, Mrs. Alfred Knudson, of near Osakis.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the Anderson Funeral home, Dr. Oscar O. Gustafson officiating. Interment was made in Kinkead cemetery.
