They had ten children.
This is a portion of an article from the “Belmont County History 1988”, published 1988 by the Ohio Extension Homemakers, Belmont County, submitted by: Margaret “Peggy” Goldsmith.
My great-grandparents, Byers and Adeline Brice, lived in Wegee, Ohio in the early 1800’s. They were the proud parents of ten daughters: Adda, Bell, Lyda, Martha, Maggie, Alice, Anna, Mary, Emma and Kate.
They had a large two-story home surrounded by a beautiful lawn, trees, flowers, large vegetable garden and historical Wegee Creek.
The Presbyterian Church, Shadyside, Ohio, is the continuation and reorganization of the Wegee Presbyterian Church of which Byers Brice was an elder. The Wegee Church was organized in 1851 at a total cost of $598.00 with twelve members reminding us of the twelve disciples of the Lord.
Emma Laura Brice, one of the ten daughters of Byers and Adeline, married Frank Jones. The had four children: Gail, Lester, Paul and Ralph, all now deceased.
Paul Brice Jones married Mary Maria Bennett of Bellaire, Ohio and lived on Leona Avenue Shadyside, Ohio. To this union, Margaret Emma, was born in 1911, my sister Mary Elizabeth born 1912, and twins Paul and Pauline born 1914, died in infancy.
My father, Paul Brice Jones, was Postmaster, Shadyside, Ohio, for many years until elected Belmont County Treasurer, serving two terms.
The only differences I see with what we had before is “Adda” instead of “Addie” as a nickname for Adaline V. Brice and Emma Laura Brice instead of Emma A. Brice for the fifth daughter. Oh yeah, Margaret was missing Eulalia “Eula” Jones from her list of Emma's children. I thought it interesting that their father, Thomas Byers Brice, apparently went by Byers.
