A table top over his grave has the following inscription:
In memory of Deacon Nathaniel Ely, obit December 26, 1779 aetat 84. He was a shining example of of the social and christian virtues, eminetly useful in noth religious and civil society, amd closed life in joyful hope of a glorious immortality by Jesus Christ. His father was Deacon Jonathan Ely, his predeccssor in office. His grandfather was Mr. Samuel Ely of Springfield who died ____. His great grandfather was Nathaniel Ely, from England, one of the settlers of Connecticut; he removed to Springfield Mass, where he died December 28, 1675. Pslam 112:6. The righteous shall be had in everlasting rememberance.
