John Arnold Spargo was the first-born son of James A. Spargo, Sr. and Emma Jane Lynch. John died of diphtheria, at 10 o' clock PM, Saturday, October 5, 1901 after a three day illness.

John's oldest brother, my Uncle Bill, was six when John Arnold died. In those years, funerals were held at home. Uncle Bill was not allowed to go to the graveyard. In later years, he told his wife, Olive, that he remembered kneeling at the window of their home on Madison St and crying as the cars left the house to take John to be buried.
