Mary Ann McIntyre was born in Port Bannatyne, Bute to Donald and Ann McGillvary McIntyre. Her father was a herring fisherman. She was the seventh of eight children. She married Samuel Kerr who was from Ireland and they moved to Johnstone, Scotland. Together they had eight children. They lost two of their sons, one at age 3 1/2 and the other at age 9 months. She and Samuel were married for fourteen years when she passed away and is buried with her two sons.
