DAVENPORT — John “Joe” Robert Halligan, 75, a resident of Davenport, died Saturday, April 25, 2015, at Select Specialty Hospital, Davenport. Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will take place in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the mass Wednesday at the church. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.

John Robert Halligan was born on Jan. 17, 1940, in Davenport, a son of Melvin Simon and Grace (Ross) Halligan. He graduated from Taylor School. John was a client at the Handicapped Development Center, which gave him the independence to be a productive member of society through their work program, which he began in 1957.

John was a resident of “Fishertown Road” for the past 73 years. He loved his dogs and cats, watching TV, playing video games, coloring, fishing and lighting off fireworks. He was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Quad-City Mallards.

He is survived by his baby sister, Rosemary Halligan Enoch; a cousin, George (Chris) Halligan; his partners in crime, Max Enoch, Michael Marbury, Sally Plies, Donnie Enoch, Darrell Enoch and Kelly Marbury. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and cousins.

John’s family would like to thank Jan Thompson, Stephanie Roddy, Debbie VandeVorred, the staff from Handicapped Development Center, especially Katy Scott and Mike McAleer, and the nurses and staff at Genesis West and Select Specialty Hospitals for all the care, compassion and support they provided to John.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Grace Halligan; brothers, Melvin “Hans” (Wava) Halligan, Dwight “Dee Dee” Halligan; and a sister, Patricia (Richard) Kroeger. May they rest in peace.
