Kay Burgess Smith passed away on April 23, 2015 in Washington.

He was born June 3, 1926 in Preston, Nevada to Heber Arthur Smith and Lillie Jeffery Burgess Smith.

He married Phyllis Lucille Irvine in the Salt Lake Temple on June 23, 1950. She passed away on November 29, 1983. He married Gladys Gail Stutz on May 27, 1988 in the Jordan River Temple.

At the age of four, his parents moved from Lund, Nevada to Alpine, where his family farmed, raising chickens and various crops.

He graduated from American Fork High School, then enlisted in the Army Infantry serving during WWII in Okinawa.

At Geneva Steel, he did his apprenticeship as an electrician. He worked at the Federal Reserve Bank maintaining the electrical system, then was promoted to Building Services Manager.

He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many church positions.

As a young man, he served in the Northern California mission. In 1995, he and his wife, Gail, served two missions in Florida in Welfare Services, Employment.

His hobby was woodworking and shared his talent by giving away his finished creations to others.

Kay is survived by his wife, Gail; son, Scott I. Smith; daughters, MaryKay Crownover (Roger) and Annette E. Pettersson (David); step-daughters, Sondra Noble, Sherrie N. Lewis (John), and DeAnn N. Young; step-son, Chris M. Noble (Lori); fiteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and brother, Curtiss L. Smith (Robbie). He was preceded in death by wife, Phyllis; great-grandson, Austin Grand Pettersson; two brothers, and four sisters.

The family would like to thank the Applegate Home Care & Hospice nurses, doctors, and staff for their professional care of Kay during his illness.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in West Jordan Second Ward Chapel, 2901 West 9000 South, West Jordan. A viewing will be held prior to the services from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. A viewing will also be held at the church on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Interment with full military honors accorded will take place in the Redwood Memorial Estates Cemetery.
