Deseret News, The (Salt Lake City, UT) - March 23, 2008.
Obituary: Irma Smith Vawdrey Sheppick, UT United States, 1912 ~ 2008. Our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away from complications of a stroke on March 21, 2008. She was born on September 17, 1912 in Lund, Nevada and her family lived in Nevada until Irma graduated from Ely High School. She had been very active in sports and school activities. Her family moved to Utah and she entered Henager's Business College, but the depression hit Utah and she went to work for room and board in Salt Lake City during those extremely difficult years. She also cooked for the workers at the Yankee Mine in American Fork Canyon, and worked as a secretary at Chipman's Store in American Fork, and ultimately became the pie maker at the Lion House and talked of serving President Heber J. Grant and other General Authorities of the LDS Church. On May 4, 1938, she married Wendell C. Vawdrey in the Salt Lake Temple (later divorced) and they lived in Draper where they reared their children. Irma served in many capacities in the Church, willing to do whatever she was called to do, and making friends everywhere she went. She was loved as the Relief Society President because in giving comfort to grieving families, they knew she understood, because she had lost two young children earlier. In 1973, she married Ural Sheppick and moved to his home in Hillsboro, Oregon, where she met Ural's family and learned to love his children and grandchildren as her own. When Ural passed away in 1992, she moved in with her daughter and son-in-law. She served two missions for the Church; A chapel-building mission with her first husband in Uruguay from 1961 to 1965, and with her sister, Iona Hadfield, in the Washington D.C. Temple from 1996 to 1997. She was currently living in Draper, where once again she made many friends in the Corner Canyon Third Ward.

She was preceded in death by two children, Janice Vawdrey and Wendell Charles Vawdrey; her parents, Heber Arthur and Lillie Jeffery Burgess Smith; her two brothers, Jay and Malin; her two sisters, Belva Bateman, and Vonda Rasmussen.

She is survived by one sister, Iona Hadfield; two brothers, Kay (Gail) Smith and Curtiss (Robbie) Smith. She is also survived by her daughter, Irma Rae (Jerry) Fairbourn; and her son, Robert Arthur (Colleen) Vawdrey; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the wonderful people at University Hospital and CareSource for their loving kindness and help during the past few days. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the Corner Canyon 3rd LDS Ward (Steeplechase Building) 1788 Aintree Ave., Draper, Utah. Friends may call at Goff Mortuary on Monday from 6-8 p.m. for a viewing or Tuesday at the church from 9:45-10:45 a.m. Interment, Draper City Cemetery.
