Born on December 9, 1921 in Baltimore, Maryland, to the late Virginia and James Airey.
He served in the US Navy Submarine Corps during WWII. While stationed in Perth, Australia, he served on seven war patrols, primarily operating in the South China Sea, Java Sea and the Sea of Japan.
He was awarded several Combat Stars.
Upon his return, he worked for EMJAY Engineering and Construction Company for 40 years until his retirement.
Along with his parents, Donald is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years, Virginia Airey.
He is survived by his son Don Airey of upstate New York; his daughter, Donna L. Korkala of New Jersey; two granddaughters, Michelle Horvath and Pamella Ledingham both of New Jersey; three great-grandchildren, Hannah Horvath, Graham Horvath and Olivia Ledingham and his longtime loving friend and partner Jackie Curley of Maryland.
The family invites friends to a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday at 11 AM in
St. Jane Frances Church.
His Interment will follow, with military honors, in Glen Haven Memorial Park.
Those who wish may contribute to the Mandrin Hospice Center in Harwood, Maryland.
