Marie Haddock Hardee

Marie Haddock Hardee died Monday April 20, 2015.

The funeral service will be conducted on Friday at the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel officiated by the Pastor Steve Smith.

Burial will follow in Pinewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hardee was the daughter of the late Claude and Dillie Elks Haddock of Pitt County.

She graduated from Grimesland High School. She married her high school sweetheart James Lewis Hardee Sr. on February 1, 1942, both were natives of Pitt County.

Marie was a homemaker, who enjoyed cooking, sewing and crafts. She also helped on the family farm for many years. Marie was a member of Salem United Methodist Church where she was secretary of the Young Adults Sunday School Class for many years, she also was the Chair Person for the church memorial fund for several years.

Marie always had a desire to learn more about her family history, with her husband’s help, they started gathering the information. Marie researched and compiled three family books. The first was Edwards of Pitt County, the second, The Ancestors and Descendants of James Hardee and Rebecca Leona Tyson Hardee and the third, The Ancestors and Descendants of Jessie J. Haddock and Martha Jane Stocks Haddock.

Marie loved to cook and always had enough for a few extras. She loved her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren very much. Marie loved her church family and attended when she was able. Marie and her husband, James L. celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary on February 1, 2015.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Annie Ruth Mills of Grimesland and Mildred Hardee of Greenville; seven brothers, Leon J. Haddock of Chocowinity, Sherman Haddock of Washington, Frizzele Haddock, Oscar B. Haddock, Grover C. Haddock, Lonnie R. Haddock (infant) of Grimesland, and Jessie David “J.D.” Haddock of Plymouth.

She is survived by her:
loving husband, James L. Hardee Sr.;
sons, James Lewis Hardee, Jr. and wife, Shirley of Greenville,
William Claude “Billy” Hardee and wife, Deborah of Canton, MS and Dan Roger Hardee of Greenville;

six grandchildren, James L. Hardee III,
Brenda H. Mills,
S. Brooke Hardee, and
Taylor R. Hardee all of Greenville,
William Kevin Hardee,
Ashley Brad Hardee of Florida;
five great-grandchildren.
