Amanda Elizabeth Dorman was the daughter of General Charles P. Dorman (War of 1812) and Amanda Elizabeth McCue. She married David Phillip Curry on 1 May 1849 in Augusta Co., Virginia.

On the 1850 Lexington, Rockbridge Co., Virginia census, I found lawyer D D Cury (sic), 30, in England and Amanda E Cury (sic), 21, in Virginia.

"Mrs. Amanda E. Curry, wife of David P. Curry Esq. after a lingering and severe illness, departed this life on the 13th instant, at the residence of her husband; near Lexington." Per the Lynchburg Daily Virginian, Vol 7, #18, dated 23 Aug 1858 (see photo).

On the 1860 Rockbridge Co., Virginia census, I found lawyer David P Curry, 42; and his children: Sallie, 10; Amanda, 8; Charles, 5 Susan, 2. He is living with head of household Rebecca A Curry, 26; David Curry, 5; Francis Curry, 3; Annie Curry, 1 and Ann B Culton, 59, all Virginia born (though David was born in England).

On 30 Nov 1865, widower David S Curry, 47, born in London, England, the son of David and Sarah Curry, married Rebecca A Calton (sic), 36, born in Rockbridge Co., Virginia, the daughter of Alex and Ann R Calton (sic), in Rockbridge Co., Virginia. Transcribed on Familysearch.

About 25 years after his first wife, Amanda died: on 19 Apr 1883 her widowed husband wrote a LONG article to the Editors of the Lexington Gazette. They titled it "Letter from Texas.- BURNET, TEXAS," in the 3 May 1883 issue. He would die a month later. It begins: "After ten years absence from your county and my own loved home, I having this day received a copy of the Lexington Gazette, and finding you and the heading of the paper unchanged, and of course familiar as well as refreshing, I have concluded to send you a few lines to show my remembrance of much loved places and friends." He mentioned many familiar names and comments. "Respectfully, D. P. Curry. (partial photo on David's site).

Her husband David died in Burnet, Texas: "DEATH.--We learn that Mr. D. P. Curry, formerly a citizen of Rockbridge and recently a resident of Burney, Texas, died at his home in the latter State about 10 days ago after a brief illness of pneumonia. Mr. Curry was a prominent man in the county during his residence here, and has a large circle of kindred and acquaintances who will regret to hear of his death." Per the Lexington Gazette (VA), Vol 14, #25, 7 June 1883 (posted on his site).
