Alex Parley, 88, of Windsor, died on Saturday, November 8, 2014, at the UCONN Medical Center. He was born on May 26, 1926, in Cambridge, MA, son of the late Carl and Sophia (Kravet) Parley. Alex graduated from Greenfield High School with the Class of 1944. Alex was a "Tin Can Sailor" with the U.S. Navy during WWII aboard the U.S.S. Melvin DD680 in the South Pacific. At the Battle of Leyte Gulf, the destroyer Melvin miraculously sank the Japanese battleship Fuso. He survived the battles of Okinawa and Iwo Jima. Upon returning from the service he graduated American Intl. College, Springfield College, & The New School NYC. He married in 1953 and together they settled in Windsor, where they raised a family. Alex worked for the Springfield Armory where he held secret clearance, the Hartford Steam Boiler as the Editor of the Locomotive House Magazine, Hamilton Standard as a Supervisor of Advertising and sales promotions and electronics, Anderson Laboratories as the Corporate Advertising Manager, AAA of Hartford where he was a Managing Director and the CT D.E.P. where worked as the Director of Public Affairs. Alex always has a passion for the water and beach and enjoyed Life Guarding from a young age. Along with his wife of over 61 years, he leaves 2 daughters and a son, 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. His "special buddy" grandson brought joy to his life joining in laughter at Laurel & Hardy, good food, ocean visits, and everyday conversations. All family wishes to express their deepest gratitude for his outstanding and compassionate care and benevolent staff at UCONN John Dempsey Hospital, Mt. Sinai, and McLean Medical facility. Funeral services will be private at the request of his family. Carmon Windsor Funeral Home has care of the arrangements.
