Albert Blumhagen, 87, Bismarck, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2015, with his family by his side. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:30 AM at Faith Lutheran Church in Bismarck with Rev. Wes Aardahl officiating. Burial will be at 1:00 pm at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.

Albert was born on March 30, 1928, in Pickardville, ND, to William and Katie (Lauer) Blumhagen. Albert joined the US Army in December 1952 and was honorably discharged in December 1954. He married Lorraine Helm on April 19, 1953, while on leave from the Korean War. Albert worked for farmers in the McClusky, Turtle Lake, and Underwood area, and then for Holen Construction for several years before moving to Bismarck in 1966. He then began working for Bismarck Parks and Rec where he worked until his retirement at age 62.

He loved racing and doing woodworking at his son-in-law's shop. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren and his cat, Goldie. Albert was a lifelong member of the Eagles Club.

Albert is survived by his wife, Lorraine; two sons, Tim and Jeff; one daughter, Shelia Sailer; three grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, one great-grandchild; six step-great-grandchildren; his brother, Edwin Blumhagen; his sister, Pauline Roth; his sisters-in-law, Ardella, Jerda and Elva Blumhagen, Darlene, Mayola Holen, Arlene Beich, and Vinita Lemler; his brother-in-law, Wesley Helm; his step-brothers, Norman Knodel and Ardel Knodel; his stepsister, Kathie Schiermeister; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Edwin Knodel; his brother, Leonard; his sister, Ruth Schon; his brothers, Rueben, Lawrence, Lloyd, and Richard; his brothers-in-law, Benny Schon and Stanley Roth.
