He was a veteran of the Korean War and the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Second Infantry Association.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Bobbie Cornett.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Stelle Cornett of the home; a son, Craig Cornett of St. Louis; a daughter, Teresa of Wichita, Kansas; his mother of Huntsville; six brothers, Carmon Cornett of Okanogan, Washington, Clint Cornett of Prairie Grove, Kenneth Cornett, Gary Cornett and Jim Cornett, all of Huntsville, and Keith Cornett of Harrison; four sisters, Thelma Hill of Springdale, and Stella Harp, Linda Sparks and Robin Umland, all of Huntsville; four grandsons and two granddaughters.
He was buried with military honors.
Pallbearers were Arthur "Sam" Steele, Les Gamble, Gerald Ham, Eldon Hestand, Buck DeBoard and Don MacLean.
