Martha Matilda Chick, the daughter of William Miles Chick, an early resident and merchant of the area.
Martha married Nathan had nine children, six of whom were alive at the time of their father's death: Edward, Charles, Nathan, William Chick, Ann Elizabeth (Hendrix), Martha Matilda (Jones). (Mary Lucky/Mamie, Juliet Virginia and Joseph had died.) After
Martha's death in 1873, Scarritt married Ruth Barker Scarritt, the widow of his brother, Isaac. Nathan died in 1890.

SCARRITT---Very suddenly and unexpectedly, of apoplexy, on Tuesday (29 Jul 1873) evening 29th inst., Mrs. M.M. Scarritt, wife of Rev. N. Scarritt, of this vicinity.
Mrs. Scarritt was daughter of Col. Wm. M. Chick, deceased, who was one of the proprietors and first settlers of Kansas City. To her absent relations, and to the large circle of her friends, this announcement of her death will carry the deepest grief. The funeral services will take place from the Fifth street Methodist Church to the Union cemetery, on Thursday at ten o'clock, a.m.. Services to be conducted by Rev. Wm. Holmes.
