Gene E. Hartman, 86, passed away on April 11, 2015. A memorial service will be held April 18 at First Presbyterian Church in Scottsbluff. Gene was born on July 31, 1928 to Ruth (Sealock) and Clifford Hartman in Hoxie, Kansas. He was the fourth of seven children. Gene spent his early childhood in Hoxie, and moved with his family to Fort Collins,Colorado when he was sixteen years old. Gene graduated from Loveland High School in 1947; he attended Colorado A&M University in Fort Collins, Colorado, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree before continuing his studies at the University of Wyoming. Gene met Margaret Keating when they both were students at Loveland High School. The two quickly became inseparable, and were married in Loveland on September 10, 1950, while they were both in college. Gene and Margaret spent several years together with their young family in Laramie and Torrington, Wyoming, where Gene worked for the Brown Bean Company before settling in Gering, Nebraska in 1970 where he was employed by Jirdon’s and Midwest Farm Service. In 1980, Gene launched Custom Cut Construction and enjoyed decades of success as a business owner in the panhandle region. Family always came first for Gene. He was a loving and devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, three siblings, wife Margaret and son Scott.
