Helen Catherine Biggers Lowder

Helen Catherine Biggers Lowder of Charlotte, NC, passed away Sunday March 4th, 2012. She was born May 16th, 1927 in Monroe, NC, the daughter of the late Henry Brown Biggers and Mamie Connell Biggers.

After graduating from high school, Helen attended Kings Business College. Upon graduation, she was employed by Vocational Rehabilitation of Charlotte, where she met her husband of 51 years, the late Harry B Lowder of Albemarle, NC. Her husband's career took them from Charlotte to New York, NY, to Hartford, CT to Richmond, VA, and Columbia, SC before returning to Charlotte. Through all those years Helen was a devoted stay-at-home mom and grandmother.

Helen was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Charlotte for over 35 years, and a member of Sharon Baptist Church, Charlotte for the last three years.

She chose to focus her life on faith, family and friends. Also an avid gardener of roses, other flowers and herbs, she spent countless hours with her "hands in the soil".

Helen was predeceased by her sisters, Evelyn Biggers and Hester Ross and brothers, Henry Brown Biggers Jr. and John Heath Biggers.

Survivors include her daughter, Susan Knox and husband Lee of Charlotte; son, Tom Lowder and wife Gayle; granddaughter, Hannah Catherine of Newton, NC; Tom's stepchildren, Shannon Armstrong and husband Rob of Mt. Holly, NC and Todd Houtz and wife Beth of Goldsboro, NC; sister, Mildred Austin of Mount Pleasant, SC; sister-in-law, Velma Lowder of Albemarle, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service to celebrate her life will be at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, March 8th at Sharon Baptist Church, 6411 Sharon Rd., Charlotte. The family will receive friends at Harry & Bryant Company, 500 Providence Rd., Charlotte from 7-9 p.m. Wed., Mar. 7th. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery, 4426 Central Ave., Charlotte.

Memorials may be made to Sharon Baptist Church, Charlotte, or Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region.
