“Leo” Leon Malkowski of rural Mayville died Tuesday, March 2, 1999 at Lapeer Regional Hospital. He was 81 years old.
Leon was born August 28, 1917 in Detroit and was raised in the Caro the East Dayton area before moving to Mayville. He married Jean Waldron on February 14, 1943 in Caro. He was a lifelong farmer and he and Jean have been foster parents for the last 30 years, raising many children in addition to their own. He was a member of Tuscola County Farm Bureau.
Survivors include his wife, Jean, a daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Mike Mochiak of Mayville; son and daughter-in-law Dan and Terri of Mayville; four grandsons; Ryan, Rodney, Jeff and Chris; three foster daughters; Kelly, Ann and Mary; two brothers, four sisters, and their spouses; Anthony and Mary Malkowski of Madison Heights, Roman and Devona Malkowski of Pigeon, Hpe Wisniewski of Valencia, California, Bernice and Art Caswell of Deckerville, Irene Tweedie of Caseville, and Genevieve and Roy Middleton of Mayville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Lounsbury; a sister, Helen; brother, Frederick; and foster child, Sherry.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 5 at the Collon Funeral Home in Caro. Pastor Keith Mead officiated, with burial at Rich Township Cemetery, Mayville. Arrangements were made by Collon Funeral Home of Caro.
