Dorothy passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the age of 88. She was born to Fred and Irene Schmuck of Warsaw, Illinois. Dorothy moved out to California at the age of 19 and started working in Long Beach, CA on the shipyards during WWII. She later moved to Fresno, CA where she worked as a secretary. Soon after, she met and married Arthur Lema of Livingston, CA. They were married for 61 years, Dorothy and Art enjoyed traveling across the United States in their RV and were members of the Mo-Stan Wheelers, where they attended local outings with their group of friends. She enjoyed reading, sewing, working crossword puzzles, baking/cooking for her family and writing letters to her many pen pals. Dorothy got so much enjoyment from her family and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Art in 2008, her son, Anthony in 1969, her parents, and two siblings, Wendall Schmuck and Myrta Schmuck Mendonca. She is survived by her children, Arlene Lema (Dennis) Prouty and Ron (Linda) Lema, her grandchildren, Craig (Melissa) Prouty, Denise Prouty, Stacey (Kelly) Finch and Tony (Nicole) Lema. Dorothy is also survived by her six great-grandchildren, Max, Cole and Zoe Prouty, Drennan, Kyran Finch and Noah Lema, and four siblings, Lucilla Nimitz, A.J. Schmuck, Iona Schmuck and Tody Ruffcorn, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral service will be held at Lakewood Funeral Home on Friday, January 18 at 1:30pm.
