The Osceola Times, Fri. 27 Apr. 1923, pg 1.
April 20th, 1923 Mrs. Sallie Denton Birchfiel, wife of Wilson Birchfiel, of this city. The deceased had been ill of flu. She recovered from that when pneumonia developed, which was the immediate cause of her death. She bore her sickness with Christian fortitude.
The deceased was born in Dandridge, Tenn., Oct. 3rd, 1856, her father, Thomas Denton moved to Osceola in 1878 and died in 1892. She was married to Mr. Birchfiel Oct. 8th, 1893 in Oklahoma. It was somewhat romantic that this couple born in the same County, brought up together, attended the same school and were friends until ill health caused him to seek help-giving air of the West. While she was visiting a relative in Oklahoma in 1893, they again met and love stream came true. Mr. Birchfiel at once brought her to Osceola and he was so impressed with the salubrious climate and the fertility of the soil that he located here. Their lives had been shining example of “Two hearts that beat as one.”
The deceased was a member of the Methodist Church since childhood, her beloved pastor, Rev. W. A. Lindsay, payday beautiful tribute to her memory.
As wife, sister and friend she was a character to love and admire. She was of a retiring disposition but affectionate to relatives and a good neighbor. She looked well after the ways of her household.
She was laid to rest in Violet Cemetery Saturday, April 21st beside the parents home she loves so well.
She leaves to mourn her loss, besides her husband, two sisters, Mrs. Wm. Cowan, of Luxora and Mrs. L. W. Ballew, of Jonesboro, and several nieces and nephews, besides many sincere friends.
May God comfort them in their sorrow. We too will miss her. Mrs. S. S. Semmes
