Ralph Edward Goodling, 88, of Powell Lane, Loysville, died Friday, Dec. 15, 2006 at home.

He was born Sept. 2, 1918 in Cumberland County to the late Lloyd Arthur and Effie Mae (Smyser) Goodling.

He was a lifetime farmer in Cumberland County and retired as a grounds keeper at South Middleton School District; a member of the Sheaffer's Valley Church of God, Landisburg, and a former member of Churchtown Church of God, and served on church council and was a Sunday school teacher at both churches; and an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting at his cabin in northern Pennsylvania.

Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Mary E. Wolf Goodling; three daughters, Janice E. Widders and Cathie A. Adams, both of Carlisle, and Dr. Faye A. Goodling of Narrows, Va.; two sons, Mark E. of Carlisle and Dale A. of Loysville; two sisters, Dorothy Goodling Hess and Ruth Goodling Hair; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.

Services were held Dec. 20 in Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home and Crematory, Carlisle, with the Rev. Harry Cole officiating. Burial was in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle.
