STATESBORO, Ga. - Mrs. Bertis Dickerson Akins Deal passed away peacefully on April 9, 2015 at Brown's Health and Rehabilitation Center under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice, at the age of 100. Born to Frank and Gussie Wynn Dickerson on May 15, 1914, Mrs. Deal was the eldest of twelve children. She worked at Brooks Instruments for many years before retiring to help with family. She was an avid reader and quilter and created cherished heirlooms for family and friends. Mrs. Deal was a faithful member of the Upper Mill Creek Primitive Baptist Church. She had been lovingly cared for daily by granddaughters, Pam Harley and Stasia Smith.

Mrs. Deal was preceded in death by her parents, husbands John Elzy Akins and Bloyce Deal, a son, John Donald Akins, three brothers, Reggie, Barney and Kelly Dickerson and two sisters, Eunice Chester and Jewell Dickerson.
