Delbert U. McWhirter, Jr., of Vidor, passed away Thursday at his residence.

Born in Weiser, Arkansas, he retired as a water treater with Texaco Port Arthur Refinery in 1982 after 30 years of service.

He served in the European Theatre during World War II, was a member and 50 year Deacon of the First Baptist Church of Mauriceville, a former member of the Mauriceville Independent School District Board and a member of the National Rifle Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Delbert U. McWhirter and his first wife Dorothy Baggett McWhirter.

Survivors include wife, Annette McWhirter; sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Gail McWhirter, Linn and Colleen McWhirter and Hal and Becky McWhirter; daughters and sons-in-law, Pam and Tom Easterling and Kris and Wayne Trimmier; brothers and sisters-in law Paul and Helen McWhirter and John and Zoella Dodgen and sister Earlene Johnson; stepdaughters, Deanna Belanger and Jeanna Hofmann and husband, Joe; step son, Jonathan Kellogg and wife Kim; fourteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
