Merle N. Mott

Merle Nadine Mott, age 95 of the Fort Armstrong, Rock Island, formerly of Milan, died Saturday, September 27, 2008 at Trinity Pathway Hospice at Terrace Park, Bettendorf, IA.

Funeral services for Merle will begin at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 1, at Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Milan.

Merle was born on October 24, 1912 in Frederick, Oklahoma, the daughter of Albert B. and Bertha (Simpson) Olmstead. She married Eugene E. Mott on August 2, 1935 in Rock Island. He preceded her in death on July 17, 1990.

Merle worked as a bookkeeper for Robinson’s Hardware in Rock Island, and the Milan Independent newspaper. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Milan, where she had been very active in earlier years and sang in the church choir. She had belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star, Milan, for over 50 years where she served twice as Worthy Matron. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, and music.

Survivors include her daughters, Jonna L. Tyler, Milan and Merle “Jean” Baxter, East Moline; 5 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, her parents, several brothers and sisters, 2 sons-in-law and 1 great granddaughter preceded her in death.
