Herman A. Shogren, son of Charles Eric and Mathilda Shogren was born March 3, 1893 in Belle River Township, Douglas County, Minnesota.
He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Fahlun Lutheran Church of Crooked Lake and has been a long time active member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria.
On June 17, 1915 he was united in marriage to Bertha E. Swanson. They have lived in the Alexandria area except for a short period of time spent in Morris, Minnesota. Mr. Shogren was employed for many years by North American Creameries in Alexandria.
He passed away at Douglas County Hospital on July 24, 1973 at the age of 80 years. Surviving Mr. Shogren at his widow, Bertha and six children: Mrs. James S. (Viola) McGee of Plymouth, Indiana; Mrs. Albert H. (Sylvia) Rairdon of Carlos; Charles E. of Des Moines, Iowa; Betty of New York City and John A. of Colorado Springs, Colorado; 25 grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters and three brothers: Mrs. Art Palmer (Olga) of Marysville, California; Mrs. Al Fransen (Emma) of Lemon Grove, California; Mrs. Gust Mattson (Ellen) of Alexandria; Joe of Sutter, California; Albert of New Plymouth, Idaho and Emil of Alexandria, Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
Funeral services were held July 27, 1973 at Calvary Lutheran Church, Alexandria, Minn., with Rev. James S. McGee officiating. Interment was at Kinkead Cemetery, Alexandria, Minnesota. Pallbearers were Edwin Mattson, Gerard Hanson, Wayman Hanson, Leslie Shogren, Harley Hanson and Frank Collin. Honorary pallbearers were Hugo Ahlquist, Roy Sam, Henning Erickson, Oscar Johnson, Ernest Peterson and Paul Bergien. Services directed by Alexandria Funeral Home.
