SELMA O. HANSON, LIFE-TIME RESIDENT OF COUNTY, DIES
Funeral services for Selma O. Hanson, a former resident of Belle River Township, were held Friday, Dec. 6, 1968 at 2 pm from the Fahlun Lutheran Church. The Rev. Vernon Holte officiated. Mrs. Gary Miller sang, accompanied by Mrs. Reuben Bolin.
Casket bearers were Edwin Anderson, Edwin Green, James Hanson, John Hanson, Gust Hedlof and Lawrence Olson.
Interment was made in the Nelson cemetery.
Selma O. Hanson was born in Belle River Township, Douglas County, Minnesota on Feb. 28, 1883, the daughter of Charles and Mathilda Shogren. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of the Fahlun Lutheran Church. Most of her life was lived in Belle River township. The last four years she made her home at the Knute Nelson Memorial Home.
On Sept. 19, 1903, at Alexandria, she was united in marriage to Carl Hanson. Mr. Hanson preceded her in death on Dec. 28, 1967. Selma Hanson passed away Tuesday, Dec. 3, at the age of 85 yers, 9 months and 11 days.
Surviving are three sons: Gerard (wife Hazel) Hanson of Belle River township; Harley of Mound, Minnesota; Wayman of Belle River township; three daughters: Ruby (Mrs. David Herman) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Eleanor (Mrs. Allan Rogers) of Nelson; Dorothy (Mrs. Elmer Englund) of Minneapolis; four brothers: Emil and Herman Shogren of Alexandria; Albert Shogren of Cottage Grove, Oregon; Joseph Shogren of Yuba City, California; three sisters: Ellen (Mrs. Gust Mattson) of Alexandria; Emma (Mrs. Al Franzen) of Lemon Grove, California; Mrs. Olga Palmer of Maryville, California; 18 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and two grandchildren.
