Sister Innocence Distel, 84, a Benedictine nun who served many years as a teacher and principal at Roman Catholic schools here and in Colorado, died Monday in St. Joseph Court of St. Scholastica Priory, 7430 N. Ridge.

Sister Innocence was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and joined the Benedictine Sisters at St. Scholastica in 1927.

She taught at St. Joseph, St. Hilary and Queen of Heaven parochial elementary schools in Chicago; Mother of God elementary school in Waukegan, and three schools in Colorado. She also was principal at St. Joseph and St. Hilary and at St. Mary School in Pueblo, Colo. After her retirement from teaching, Sister Innocence helped care for the ill at St. Scholastica.

Survivors include a brother, Joseph, and a sister, Mary Dixon.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. today at St. Joseph Court Chapel. Mass will be offered in the chapel at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, in unincorporated Techny.
