Born in Lutzerath, west of Koblenz in Germany's Rhineland (then part of the Kingdom of Prussia), and born Johann Konen, John arrived in America with his wife and one daughter in April 1883. They settled a few miles northeast of his brother Joseph’s farm, near Dotyville.
