She was born November 26, 1920 at Earlton, Kansas to Harry and Pearle (Filmore) Whinery. She grew up on a farm in the rural Earlton and Fredonia, Kansas area. She was united in marriage to Carl Allen Shue on September 21, 1940 at Fredonia. He preceded her in death on January 18, 1968. Following their marriage, they lived on a farm near Galesburg until moving to Parsons in 1962 where she worked for a time at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant.
Mrs. Shue was an active member of the First Christian Church in Parsons and had attended the First Christian Church in Fredonia in the past. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed doing crafts and playing bingo at the nursing home.
She is survived by one son, Claude Shue and his wife Mary of Parsons, Kansas; one daughter, Debbie Gordon and her husband, Kevin of rural Welch, Oklahoma; special family friends, Karen and Lou O’Brien & family; ten grandchildren; David Shue, Ricky Shue, Roger Shue, Melissa McKinney, John Allen Arabia, Jeff Arabia, Tammy Garretson, Angie Niver, Carl Shue and Ashley Shue; nineteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson and one sister, Lucille Schneider of Emporia, Kansas.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Roy, Ray and Lee Whinery, one son, Carl Leroy Shue, who passed away in 1991; one daughter, Judy Arabia, who passed away in 2012 and one grandson, Robert Shue, who passed away in 2009, as well as her longtime companion, Howard Pruitt.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 4, 2015 at the First Christian Church in Fredonia with her son, Rev. Claude Shue officiating. Committal services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday at the Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Parsons. The family will receive friends at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons from 7 to 8 PM on Friday.
