Nisey was educated in the Portsmouth Public School System and graduated in 1971 from Cradock High School. She was reared and baptized in the Zion Bethel United Church of Christ church family, where she enjoyed serving in several activities and auxiliaries, and especially singing in the youth choir while leading the song "Precious Lord Take My Hand".
In 1972, Nisey married Norman "Culley" Griffin and of this union was the blessing of one son, Norman "CJ" Griffin, Jr. In 1987 she married William Pugh and they happily loved and nurtured their grandsons, Ryan, Edrick, Devon, and Jaydon with all they had. Nothing gave Nisey more joy than to have "her boys" in the home. Upon her retirement from Norshipco, Nisey embraced life as a homemaker; lovingly caring for her family, and making sure each grandson feel incredibly special, as only their "Ma" could do.
Upon William's sudden passing, Nisey's health declined drastically, leaving her with difficulties that she was determined to overcome. No matter the challenge, Nisey held strong to her resilient spirit and faith in God. She especially enjoyed relaxing to her favorite music, singing loudly, and dancing with a smile. Most importantly, Nisey loved creating beautiful memories with her loving extended family that will be cherished forever.
In addition to her son and grandsons, Nisey leaves to celebrate her life three sisters: Evora Hunt-Mills (Paul), Millicent Harding, Duana Hunt-Branch; three brothers: Edward Hunt, Jr.(Helen), Donovan Hunt, Dion Hunt (Linda), in-laws, Mary Lewis, Tony Pugh, Alfonzo Forrest, Josephine Pugh, Elaine Parker, special cousins, Amos Rawls, Jr. (Allena) and Ronnie Rawls, uncles Herman Grant, Glenn Grant, and Curtis Grant, aunt Georgia Barnes, God brother, LaRonnie Mason, God sister, Beverly Stephenson, many nieces and nephews, along with her forever-family Norman Griffin, Sr., Rosa Lee Brown, Michelle Brown-Holland, Sheila Brown, and Sharon Brown.
