After serving in the United States Army for several years, Durwood attended Virginia Tech and graduated in 1967. Following his graduation, he spent a number of years working for the John Deere Company in the Roanoke area. He later returned to the family farm in Dinwiddie County where he enjoyed gardening and sharing the fruits of his labor.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 27, 2015, at the Dinwiddie Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2015, at West End Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Hughes, officiating. Interment will follow at the Bain Family Cemetery located on Bain Road in Dinwiddie. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to West End Baptist Church, 6506 Boydton Plank Road, N.
