BOONEVILLE – Pauline A. Counce passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2015, at Landmark Community Assisted Living after a short illness. She was born to James Franklin Armstrong and Donnie Alma Speck Armstrong on February 21, 1921, in Lee County. She made a commitment to Christian living in her early teen years and continued faithfully until her death, being a dedicated member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. In 1939, she married J.R. "Rodney" Counce and they made their home on the Counce farm, where she lived for 72 years before having to move to a more suitable facility.

She was an energetic and tireless homemaker, mother and grandmother who enjoyed helping others who needed assistance of any kind, and worked many years as a hospital volunteer at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Booneville. During World War II and for a short time afterward, she also worked at local garment factories. After her children were grown, she worked for several years for the Department of Agriculture. The Great Depression prevented her from finishing high school, but she returned to school to finish her high school equivalency degree after retirement age.

She was preceded in death by her parents; by Rodney Counce, her husband of 69 years, in 2008; by an infant son, Donald Roy Counce, in 1945; and by six brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her children, Jim Counce and wife, Judy, of Tupelo, Tommy Counce and wife, Sharon, of Booneville, and Deborah Counce and husband, Randall Brown, of Lenoir City, Tenn.; three grandsons, Rod Counce (Regina) of Saltillo, Doug Counce (Eliska) of McKinney, Texas, and Joel Counce of Meridan; two granddaughters, Gena Counce of Kossuth and Lin Mann (Ezra) of Paoli, Okla.; by 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Charlene Johnson of Booneville; two sisters-in-law, Cecilia Armstrong of Caddo Mills, Texas, and Barbara Armstrong of Booneville; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at McMillan Funeral Home with Bro. Pete McCoy and Bro. Ed Lowery officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
