Joan Mikeska
June 24, 1933 – March 20, 2015
Our beloved wife, mother, Jojo, aunt, and friend, Joan R. Mikeska, age 81, left to be with her Lord on March 20, 2015. She is survived by her stepson, Jeffery and his partner, Doug Jacobs; her grandchildren, Logan and Alexus Dunning; her sister-in-law, Sharon Fletcher; and nieces, Diane Sanders and husband Ron, Kendra Koslovsky and husband David, and Michelle Mikeska. She is preceded in death by her husband, Leroy; parents, Bertha Roberts and T.V. Ragsdell; sister, Billy Conley; brother, S.T. Ragsdell; son, Jeff Wayne Miller and daughter, Suzanne Dunning.
Joan was born on June 24th, 1933 in Norphlet, Arkansas. She attended school at Atlanta High School where she graduated. She then earned her Real Estate license and later launched Joan Mikeska Realty with her husband, Leroy.
Joan grew up the daughter of a Pentecostal preacher in Atlanta, Texas, and they later moved to the west Texas oil fields. More recently, she and Leroy became a member of Temple Brethren Church. Joan loved and lived her life to the fullest; she enjoyed wildlife, architecture, fine arts, literature, and traveling the world with friends and family. Joan will be dearly missed by the many lives she impacted here in Central Texas.
Joan may not be a true Temple native, but she dedicated her career to make this city special. She can be heard comparing anything and everything to our beloved city, “That won’t work in Temple, Texas.”
Funeral services will be at Temple Brethren Church on Tuesday, March 24th, at 11 a.m. followed by burial service at Bellwood Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, March 23rd from 6-8 p.m. at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple, Texas.
“We love and miss you, Jojo! You are with the best of company now. We simply cannot imagine the sheer joy in being reunited with your husband and children at last. May you rest in peace.”
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Temple Brethren Church.
