Ruth Corbett Dinger Barnard died on September 14, 2012, in Huntersville, N.C., following a short illness. She had lived in North Carolina for over two years following a year in which she lived in Danbury, Ct. Prior to living in Danbury, she had lived in Brewster for 55 years. Ruth Corbett Dinger was born on December 8, 1917, in Reynoldsville, Pa., to Charles Monroe and Sarah Corbett Dinger. She studied voice and piano at National Park Seminary in Forest Glen, Md., and continued studying music at Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y., where she met her husband of 58 years—Eugene Alanson Barnard. In 1954, Eugene and Ruth Barnard moved to Brewster. Ruth Barnard was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she was organist and active in the choir, 5-B Club, the Women’s Society, Young at Heart Association, and Missions Committee. Mrs. Barnard was a well-known accompanist for area soloists and choirs, and she worked as an accompanist for the Brewster Central Schools. For many years, she was actively involved with area musical theater groups in Putnam and Westchester counties, including The Southeast Players. Mrs. Barnard also enjoyed memberships with the Cecilian Society, the Brewster Garden Club, the Order of the Eastern Star, and several women’s bridge groups. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She is survived by her children Sally Barnard Daggett (Frank), Leigh Alan Barnard (Janet), and Constance Barnard- Murray (William Murray). She is also survived by her grandchildren Ryan Murray, Alyssa Thomas (Scott), Meghan Murray, Kyle Daggett (Isabel), and Emily Barnard. She had two great grandchildren, Carter and Jack Thomas. Mrs. Barnard was predeceased by her husband Eugene Barnard, her parents, her halfbrother Charles Weiser Dinger, and a sister Isabelle Dinger, who died in infancy. Following a memorial service at the Old Southeast Church in late October, Mrs. Barnard will be buried beside her husband in the Maple Avenue Cemetery in Patterson. The family will be making memorial contributions to not-for-profit organizations in her memory.
