Douglas Wayne Balam Born on May 9, 1948 to Mary Jo and Edwin G Balam, and died August 15, 2011 of heart failure. Doug was an avid hunter, fisherman, and outdoorsman. He lived for his annual hunting trips; whether it was deer hunting, or elk hunting. Douglas spent most of his life in, and around Marysville, WA. He attended Marysville schools, and graduated from Marysville High School. Doug excelled in football and wrestling. In 1967 after graduation from high school, he attended South Seattle Community College, where he studied Diesel Mechanics. While working to pay for college, Doug discovered that he was a good saw filer, and thus began a successful career. Doug worked for several saw mills and saw companies throughout the state. He was forced to retire as a master saw filer due to health issues.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents; Edwin G. Balam and Mary Jo Balam. Doug is survived by his brothers; Gerald (Sue) Balam, Terrell (Sandy) Balam; Daughters Brandy (Will) Kraemer, Sarah Balam, and three grandchildren; Benjamin; Sabrina; and Kaylee, as well as several nieces and nephews. We wish to thank the staff and nurses of The Smokey Point Kidney Center, DART bus drivers, and Providence Hospice (Julia and Patty particularly). A Viewing will be held between 9am-5pm on August 24, 2011 at Schaefer Shipman Funeral Home in Marysville, WA. Funeral Services will be held at 11am on August 25, 2011 at Schaefer Shipman Funeral Home 804 State Ave. Marysville, WA.
