DEATH OF ELEANOR BATTEN
Relatives and friends were greatly shocked by the news of the death of Miss Eleanor Batten, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Batten, which occurred at the hospital in Albia on Tuesday afternoon, at the age of seventeen years and nineteen days.
She had been ill for about a week and on Monday was removed to the hospital in Albia, suffering with intestinal flu. She gradually grew worse until death ended her sufferings on Tuesday afternoon.
The remains were brought to Chariton and on Friday afternoon at two o'clock, funeral services, conducted by Elder Wilbur Prall, of Lamoni, will be held at the Latter Day Saints church, after which interment will take place in the Chariton cemetery.
Eleanor Batten, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Batten, was born in Hiteman, Iowa, on December 16, 1912. When quite small she came with her parents to Chariton and this place has since been her home. She was a student in the Chariton high school and will be greatly missed in the home circle and by her associates and friends.
She is survived by her parents and by four brothers and two sisters, James, Parley, Jack, Bobbie, Verna Jane and Margaret, and by her grandparents and other relatives. To all these sorrowing ones the sympathy of the community will be extended.
