Calvin Leland Andersen, 89 of Rupert Idaho passed from this life on March 17, 2015 at Valley Vista Assisted Living.
Calvin was born on July 5, 1925 in Rigby, Idaho to Albert Andersen and Vida Ester (Waters) Andersen. He married Donna Mae Anglesey June 6, 1944 in the Salt Lake Temple. Shortly after he was shipped overseas to fight in World War II. His first and only battle was on Iwo Jima. As part of the third wave to go ashore he fought the duration of the Battle. After the war he served on a demolition squad in Japan then returned to farm in Rigby.
He drew a homestead in 1955 on the Northside. He lived on the farm until he moved to Valley Vista Assisted Living with Donna in 2011. During the winters he worked at various potato plants and later worked years for Amalgamated Sugar Company.
He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many positions in the Young Men, Scouting, Elders, High Priests and as a counselor in the Bishopric. He also served as a Stake Missionary and with Donna served in the Logan Temple.
He loved to travel and visited many places. Last summer he was able to visit Alaska which had been a lifelong dream.
Calvin is survived by he eight children, Theron (Kay Dawn) Andersen, Vicki (Arnold) Hansen, Dwight (Rita) Andersen, Wade (Jerry) Andersen, and Lance (Elizabeth) Andersen, all of Rupert, Wayne (Ronda ) Andersen and Roxie Kincade of Burley, and Thayne (Rebecca) Andersen of Bluffdale, Utah; 41 grandchildren, 91 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren; and a brother Harlow Andersen of Las Vegas.
He was preceded in death by his wife Donna, his parents, 11 siblings and a great grandson Tate. The family would like to thank Valley Vista Assisted Living for the kind care extended to Calvin the last 4 years. They would also like to thank Minidoka Memorial Hospital and Minidoka Home Health and Hospice for their gentle care during his final days.
