"The LaFayette Sun" - July 13, 1927:

In Memory.

Mrs. Amerantha Hawkins was born July 12, 1855, and having faithfully served her generation through the long period of seventy-two years, reaching that reward of promise for obedience, she sweetly fell asleep on June 18, 1927, entering into that sweet repose, no more to know the storms and tempests of life.
She was not hard to get acquainted with, but possessed a quiet, calm reserve. Though unpretentious and unassuming, conducting her life in such a manner that so much characterizes the generation of great men and women which we see fast falling away, oh that we might emulate the great examples of the fathers and mothers. That we might travel home to God in the way our fathers trod. They are happy now, and some day, some where on the shores of sweet deliverance we shall see and share with them the mansion prepared by Jesus Himself.
Surely heaven is made night and the bitterness of death is sweetened with the thought that we have loved ones there waiting to welcome us home.

Cherished forms who walked beside us
Down the aisles of flying years,
How we watch them fade and vanish
Through the mist of falling tears.

But after all the weary waiting,
Free from Toil and free from care
We shall know each other better;
We shall know each other there.

Aunt Sissy, as she was best known, had one daughter by a former marriage, who preceded her in death some 12 years ago. She leaves to mourn her passing her aged husband, one sister, Mrs. S. R. Hudson, of Chilton county; three brothers, Messrs, L. D., H. H. and G. R. Blackstone. Her pallbearers were W. F. and L. H. Hudson, Wheeler Blackstone, Richard Schott, John Bonner and O. P. Hawkins, Jr.
The body was laid to rest in Macedonia Cemetery. Rev. Hunt conducting the services. The undertakers were Robinson & Cutler, of LaFayette. Let us commemorate the life and fine traits of such a noble personality.
