Shirley Payne, 77, of Baytown, TX was born December 2, 1937 in Waller, TX and passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2015 in Houston Hospice. She was a 1956 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School and earned an Associates Degree in Journalism at Lee College. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church. She was an angel of happiness who brought joy to many with her exceptional talents and elaborate stories. She was a skilled seamstress and enjoyed making beautiful garments for her children and grandchildren. She loved hosting extended family get-togethers and planning parties for others where there was always a surprise production involved. She loved gardening and working in her yard as evidenced by the number of times that the Lakewood subdivision "Yard of the Month" sign was placed in her yard. Out of all the things she loved, her family was most dear. The best gift she gave to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family was uninterrupted time, love and devotion. Shirley was a very special woman loved by all.
Her husband, Lewis Payne, her parents Garnett and Irma Lee Jones; and her sister, Ida Lee Cone, preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Terresa and Greg Katt of College Station, Lisa and Steve Watkins of Baytown, and Tracey and Bobby Baillio of Tomball; sister and brother-in-law Charlene and Jimmy McKey of LaPorte; brother, Garnett Jones of Baytown, brother-in-law, Roy Cone of Highlands, and sister-in-law, Doris Payne of Friendswood. Also, her grandchildren, Melissa, Brandon, and Ryan Watkins, Lindsey and Greg Propst, Zachary and Hayden Baillio; great-grandchildren, Christopher, Katie, and Cameron Glasser, Caroline Propst as well as a host of special nieces, nephews and cousins survive her.
