Earlin Cunningham Walker Maxfield

On a beautiful spring day, March 9, 2015, our beloved mother and grandmother, Earlin Cunningham Walker Maxfield peacefully passed away. She was 96 years old. She was born August 8, 1918, to loving parents, Ross and Lila Haslem Cunningham and was raised with brothers, Woodrow and Jimmy (Blanche) and sisters, Leona (Harry Loader), Arvilla (Jim Hooks), and Beth (Chris Gray). She loved to go dancing at the Apollo and Latona dance halls in American Fork. It was there she met her sweetheart, Darrell Walker; a handsome athlete from Pleasant Grove. They were married February 2, 1939 and their marriage was later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They lived most of their married life in Pleasant Grove. Darrell worked at Geneva and Earlin worked at various businesses in the area including Farmers Corner, Humphries Floral, Christensens Department Store and Radmall Hardware. She finished her working career at the U.S. Forest Service office in Pleasant Grove. In September 1973, Darrell passed away. She was a widow at age 55, and for the next 17 years spent life alone enjoying her kids and grandkids, going to work and taking care of her beautiful yard. Then a new love came into her life by the name of Grant Maxfield. They married in February 1990 and enjoyed 13 years together, camping, working in the garden, going on long rides and spending winters in Blythe, California. Grant passed away in October 2003.

She was an excellent homemaker, fabulous pie maker, loved working outside in the yard, sitting on the back patio watching her quail and hummingbirds and having the family get together to play cards. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and cheerfully served in all of the auxiliaries.

We are grateful for her positive outlook on life, her unconditional love for us and her inspiring example of a life well lived.

She was preceded in death by her parents, all of her siblings, both husbands, daughter JaNea, son Gary, grandson Chad Walker and great-granddaughter Mikale Gillman.

She is survived by her children: Darline and Gene Carter, Karen Walker, Renae Allred, Dan and Jamie Walker and Dennis and Josette Walker, 18 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren and 43 great-great grandchildren.

Special thanks to Nate from Envision Hospice, you were our angel. Thanks also to Dr. Jon Kerr, the American Fork Fire Department and the staff at Bel Aire Assisted Living for the kindness and compassionate care shown to our sweet mom.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 14, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove, Utah. Family and friends may attend a viewing from noon until 1:45 p.m., prior to the services. Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery.
