MRS. MARY FARRAR GRISWOLD, 68, died at 5:05 p.m. on Wednesday in a local hospital. She had been for 34 years the executive secretary of the Chattanooga Kiwanis Club. At a ceremony marking her retirement on January 28 of this year, she was praised by past president Lou Williams "as the best Kiwanian I have ever known." During the time she was executive secretary of the club, it grew from membership of 83 to over 250 members.
She was born in Hillsboro, Tennessee in Coffee County but had resided in Chattanooga for 42 years. At the time of her death she was a resident of Stuart Manor Apartments in Stuart Heights.
Funeral services will be held on Friday from the First Christian Church, of which she was a member, at 3:20 p.m. Dr. William G. West and the Rev. L. G. Crane will officiate. Burial will follow in the Forest Hills Cemetery.
Mrs. Griswold is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Bart Lucas, San Antonio, Texas, and Mrs. Luther W. McGinty of Elberton, Georgia; one sister, Mrs. Nell Farrar Lawrence of Tullahoma, Tennessee; one brother, Dr. J. H. Farrar of Manchester, Tennessee; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Active pallbearers will be John H. Clark, Jame Cole, Joe N. Jones, Earl Platt, States R. Finley, Floyd Delaney, Claude Givens, R. E. Biggers and Otto Hubbuch.
