Frances Sharp died March 3, 2015 at 88 years old. She was born on December 3, 1926, in Lamourie, LA, to James Bertell Smith and Nellie Cornelia Willbanks Smith. She lived in Franklin Parish for over 50 years, most of those on her farm in Fort Necessity. She was proud to be trained as a nurse, starting out in the Nurse Cadet Corp at the end of World War II, graduating in 1947. She worked as a Registered Nurse in medical offices, in hospitals, in nursing homes, and in public health service. She served as the Director of Nursing Services for Franklin Parish Hospital when it opened. After retiring from that position, she worked for another 10 years in public health service. She and her husband William Gail Sharp started Sharp Brothers Tractor Company in Winnsboro with Charles and Myrtie Sharp and operated it until his death in 1978.

Frances was a member of Boeuf Prairie United Methodist Church, actively participating in this church family. She served as a delegate to the Annual United Methodist Conference for many years and served on her church’s Board in numerous capacities. Cursillo was a wonderful experience for her and she participated in the statewide follow-up events for many years. She was very active in her local, regional, and state Eastern Star Chapters, serving in many offices including Worthy Matron.

She enjoyed travelling with friends and family and visited all 50 states, as well as Canada, Mexico, Scotland, The Netherlands, Belgium, and Ireland. She was especially fond of her road trips with her long time friends – Margaret Dosher, Doris Kincaid, and Annette Kincaid. She valued learning and accumulated additional college credits and continuing learning courses through Northeast Louisiana University and the local library program. She loved reading and doing crossword puzzles. She treasured quilts and belonged to the local quilting group, attended several national quilting shows, and helped quilt several antique quilts.

She and her friends travelled to Sunday matinees at The Little Theater in Monroe and worked behind the scenes on costumes at Princess Theater performances. She volunteered at the Good Samaritan of Franklin Parish. She served on the Franklin Parish Council on Aging. She helped found the Fort Necessity Community Center and enjoyed meeting with friends when Meals on Wheels starting serving lunches there.

Survivors include her son, William Gail Sharp, Jr. and his wife Rhonda Grivet Sharp of Fort Necessity; her first daughter, Robbie Sharp and her husband, Michael Huffmaster of Houston, Texas; her second daughter, Susan Sharp and her husband, Charles Sidell of Ormond Beach, Florida; her sister, Mary Jane Smith Knight of Lena, her brother-in-law and his wife, Joseph Lindell and Barbara Sharp, and her sisters-in-law, Myrtie Bolton Sharp and Yvonne Sharp Martin and husband, Edward Martin. She is also survived by her grandchildren (William Gail Sharp III (Trey) and his wife Chrissy, Jessica Sharp McMurry and her husband Charles (Mac) McMurry, and Kasey Sharp Curington and her husband, DeWayne Curington), step-grandchildren (Christopher Sidell, Jennifer Sidell, Hillary Sidell Flynn), and many great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at Boeuf Prairie United Methodist Church, 4590 Highway 135 in Fort Necessity, LA at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, March 11, 2015, following visitation from noon until 2.
