Martha Isabella Gould Cunningham was the daughter of Thomas King Gould, planter, of Harris Neck, McIntosh County, GA and Ann Dunham, his wife. On 9 October 1862, she became the third wife of the widower John Cunningham of Savannah, GA. He was in partnership with Joseph Claghorn, ship chandlers and wholesale grocers with a warehouse in Factors Walk, Savannah. They had five children and lived at 222 East Jones Street, Savannah. The family moved to Decatur in 1879.
