Over the years she was involved in a number of organizations including membership in Desk and Derrick, International Association of Administrative Professionals, Northwest Louisiana Haiku Society, Shreveport Writers Club, Ark-La-Tex Genealogical Association, Women of Wealth Investment Club and the Elvis Angels Fan Club.

She earned her commission as Notary Public in 1973 and became a Certified Professional Secretary in 1979. She retired from the family office of Aaron Selber, Jr. and spent most of her career working in the oil & gas industry. She also volunteered her time teaching ESL classes through the Literacy Volunteers at Centenary College for many years and supported numerous fundraising events.

Leta was a voracious reader and enjoyed writing poetry and researching family history. She operated a small publishing company from her home, Swann Publications, and produced family histories, poetry chap books, memoirs and updated and reprinted the family genealogy "An Irish Stowaway".

She published several of her own collections of poetry under the pen name Francine Swann. She was an adventurer who loved traveling and visited destinations around the world including England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, France, Spain, Italy, Greece, Thailand, Mexico, Cuba, Peru, French West Indies, Turks and Caicos as well as many destinations throughout North America. Most recently she had returned from a Western Caribbean cruise with Danny O'Flaherty, one of her favorite musicians.

She was a great friend to many and gave of her time and talents to help others in need. Although she had retired from a full-time job she always had several projects in the works. Her attention to detail and excellent organizational skills were often requested by friends and colleagues. She was a great planner and enjoyed searching out her next exciting destination. She loved a wide variety of music, old and new, and attended many local art, music, theatrical and movie events.
