Irvin E. Schwartz, 86, of 11 Hillcrest Road, Hegins, passed away Saturday at the Harrisburg Hospital.
Born on June 13, 1928, in Hegins, he was a son of the late William H. and Goldie A. Kimmel Schwartz.
He served in the Army during World War II.
He was a self-employed farmer and coal miner and had also worked at Hallmark Homes, Hegins.
He was a member of Friedens United Church of Christ, Hegins, and a member of VFW Post 8237, Valley View.
Irvin enjoyed woodworking, following his granchildren's sports and was an avid Phillies and Orioles fan.
His wife, Anna M. Jooss Schwartz, passed away in 2010.
In addtion to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Dennis D Schwartz; three brothers, William, Russell and Richard Schwartz; and two sisters, Phyllis Coleman and Betty Reidinger.
Surviving are a son, William E. Schwartz and his wife, Deborah, Hegins; three daughters, Gertrude L. Masser and her husband, Clarence, Dalmatia, Cynthia A. Reiner and her husband, Roy, Camp Hill, and Cathi A. Schwartz and her husband, Anthony Stanitis, Hegins; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Chester, Franklin and Theodore Schwartz, all of Hegins, and David Schwartz, Long Island, N.Y.; two sisters, Gloria Kroh, Hegins, and Patricia Moyer, Millersburg; nieces and nephews; and his two companions, Lucky and Jack.
Funeral services were held at Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, with the Rev. Curtis Zemencik officiating. Interment was private at the convenience of the family in Friedens Cemetery, Hegins. Condolences can be left for the family at www.buffingtonreed.com.
