Clara McConnell was rasied on a farm in Grimes County near Courtney. She would talk about Courtney. I did not know all of her brothers but I met several of them. They were all fine people. She met and married Robert E. Goodwin. I did not know her in her younger years but I met her in 1945 where we moved to Waller, Texas.

She and he husband had move to Waller earlier from Houston. Her husband had retired from the City of Houston Parks Department. She and Her husband, Robert E. Goodwin whom everyone loving call "Uncle Robert" built a small home near her brother in Waller. Just about everyone I knew called her "Aunt Clara". They called him "Uncle Robert". She called her husband "Rob" to his face or when she spoke of him. Aunt Clara and Uncle Robert were the first ones in Waller (as far as I know) to have a television.

They would invite us and others to come on Friday nights to watch Wrestling from Houston on Channel "2". This was the only channel there was and it came on in the evenings. Sometimes on other nights she would invite people to her home just to watch the television. She was a very loveable gracious lady. She reached out to all that she met and would witness for the Lord. In 1950 Uncle Robert got sick and was taken to the hospital in Houston. He died in that year and Aunt Clara stayed in her house in Waller. She worked at our store from time to time.

I was just a young fellow and she always gave me good advise on thing. She would tackle anything that needed to be done. She loved to laugh and soothe situation that would come up in the store. She worked behind the meat counter with me and I spent a lot of time with her and I enjoyed it every minute with her. She was a good influnce on me. I could tease her and she would laugh with me. She knew how to do everything.

She loved her kids and her brothers and they all would come to visit her often. One brother, Uncle Charlie McConnell, lived across the street from her. She would look after him also.

She is buried next to him. I attended her funeral. When we were at the grave side a former Pastor Bill McDaniel and I were stand off to one side and he remarked to me "He would love to be standing here on Resurrection Day". I have though of that every time I visit her grave. I look forward to a reunion with her.

Aunt Clara lived to be 78 years old. I wish I had a picture of her so I could post it.
