1931-2015
Gayle Healy Kelley passed away peacefully on a snowy morning, February 26, 2015 in Bountiful, Utah – following her husband and the love of her life by only a few days and with her son by her side. Gayle was born July 24, 1931 in Murray, Utah (the State of Utah invariably honored her with a parade on her birthday every year). Her father was LeRoy Healy and her mother was Beatrice Healy. Gayle married Jack Dailey Kelley on Halloween 1959 – and they remained head-over-heels in love for the next 56 years. When Jack passed away on February 20 we knew that Gayle would not be far behind – because the only way that a love story like theirs could end was with them together again.
Gayle graduated from Murray High School in 1949 – which made her a “Smelterite” - a name which caused her two sons no end of amusement but which she bore with pride. She worked in the banking industry for years. She travelled to England, Scotland, Ireland, Italy and the Greek islands with Jack, vacationed many summers on Lake Powell on their “yacht” and spent many happy years in retirement visiting national and state parks in their camper. She was a great mother – keeping two boys who could probably most kindly be described as “a challenge” on the straight-and-narrow and (for the most part) out of jail.
Gayle is survived by her son Mike Kelley (Pam); granddaughter (who she adored) Madeline Kelley; sister Cherry Jensen (Kent); and brothers, Jim Healy (Rae) and Larry Healy (Carol). Preceded in death by her beloved son Pat and brother Gordy.
Interment Elysian Burial Gardens.
