On February 22, 2015, Lucille Catherine (German) Kelly, 94, was reunited with the love of her life, Francis, after 55 years. Surrounded by her family, she slept peacefully while they shared stories, laughed, and prayed the rosary…this Catholic mother’s dream!

Lucille was born at home June 18, 1920 to Mathias and Anne German in Ludden, ND. She was the seventh of twelve children, all of whom have passed before her. After attending Port Emma School near her home, she then attended St. Francis Academy in Hankinson, ND. Upon graduation, Lucille moved to California, where she and Francis were married November 29, 1941.

Lucille always strove to be like Mary, the mother of Jesus. With her rosary clutched securely in hand, Lucille often found the solace and strength she needed while raising her ten children after losing her husband. She reared her lively brood with a balance of no-nonsense discipline and unconditional love.

Today, Francis and Lucille’s family legacy includes ten children, 37 grandchildren, 57 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She loved and protected every one of them and each knew they would always be accepted by Grandma Lucille, no matter the transgression.

Lucille's calm, unflappable demeanor was a gift to so many. She could quiet any crying baby, make other’s hardships surmountable, and often provided tender care to family members and friends who were suffering with illnesses.

Waiting for Lucille in Heaven is her one true love, Francis, oldest son George, and grandson Cody. Sadly saying farewell are her angelic children Patrick, Michael, Tim, Cathy, Joe, Tom, Rob, Mary, Therese, along with all their children.

Funeral mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. Charles Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Hospice Care.
