DIED FRIDAY
PASSED AWAY AT COUNTY HOME
NEAR ORANGE CITY
Was 87 Years Old and a Long Time
Resident of Hawarden.—Suffered
Broken Hip Last Fall
Eli H. Lester, a long time resident
of Hawarden, passed away at 2 o'clock
last Friday morning at the Sioux
county home near Orange City, where
he has been cared for during the past
two years. He suffered a fractured hip
last fall and for a time was a patient
in a 'hospital at Orange City but later
returned to the county home where he
was obliged to remain in a wheel
chair. He failed steadily, however, until
death claimed him.
Funeral services were held at a funeral
home in Orange City at 1:30 Monday
afternoon and interment was made
at that place.
Mr. 'Lester was 87 years of age and
made his home in this city for many
years, working at the carpenter trade
as long as he was able. He was twice
married. Six children were born to the
first union, none of whom ever resided
here. More than forty years ago he
was united in marriage with Mrs.
Flora Gifford, who preceded him in
death on May 19, 1931. Two children
were born to this union, Mrs. John
Storts of Redwood Falls, Minn., and
Gaylord Lester of Hawarden. Besides
these and the children from the first
marriage, he is survived by three stepchildren,
Jay Gifford of Beresford,
Oscar Gifford of Sipux City, and Mrs.
Harry Baker of Hawarden.
Relatives and friends who attended
the funeral included Mr. and Mrs. John
Storts and Mrs. N. L. Storts of Redwood
Falls, Minn.; Mrs. Bessie Duncan
of Marshall, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs.
Jay Gifford of Beresford; and Mr. and
Mrs. Harry Storte and Miss Lettie
Storts of Hawarden.
